What makes a game idea worth building
"A game about cats" is a theme, not an idea. It tells nobody what to do with their thumb. The generator is set up to think like a producer, so every idea it gives you has the five parts I look for before anything gets prototyped:
- A core action you understand in three seconds and do with one gesture.
- A twist that makes it yours instead of a clone.
- A meta layer that gives players a reason to come back tomorrow.
- An ad hook: what the first three seconds of a video ad show.
- A scope two or three people could prototype in a few weeks.

Is the AI game idea generator free?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up. To keep it free for everyone there is a daily limit of 20 idea runs and 5 GDDs per browser, which resets every day.
What happens to what I type?
Your description is sent to an AI model (Google Gemini or Groq) to write the ideas and the GDD. Nothing is saved on my server, and your last session stays only in your own browser. Leave out anything personal or confidential.
Can it make adult or violent games?
No. Every idea and GDD is family friendly and fit for all ages: no sexual content, swearing, alcohol, drugs, gambling, gore or hate. Cartoon action is fine. Requests for anything else are turned away.
Can I use the ideas for my own game?
Yes, the ideas, GDD and prompt are yours to use, including commercially. Real games may be mentioned as reference points, so do not copy their names, art or code.
What is a one-page GDD?
A game design document that fits on a single page: the pitch, core loop, controls, mechanics, progression, art direction, monetization, what to build first, and the biggest risks. It is short enough that people actually read it.
How does the prototype prompt work?
Copy it into Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini. It asks for a single HTML file with the game's core loop, touch controls, simple graphics drawn in code and a score. Save the file, open it in a browser and play.
